Trial of Arms
The Chronicle
The first skirmish in Warsaw took place at dusk at a venue down the alley close to our resting place on this journey. A friendly kebab master greeted me with a hearty ‘bro’, a stranger in a strange land. When this word is spoken, there’s a contract of quality that is silently written. I was not met with disappointment. It had been many moons since my last kebab rendezvous and I was yearning for another.
Packed tightly, the kebab-to-go was soon to meet its fate. This time, potato strips about pinky-length will join in this unholy union of flavors bound to bewitch my senses. The feast cost me but 29 zloty or $7.58 USD at the time. A price point very difficult to beat in quality and fullness, and a surprising cost being in Warsaw’s center.
Truly, I only had one or two small complaints about this kebab, both of which could have been remedied prior to payment. First, there were tomatoes which I believe alter the flavor, ratio, and integrity of the kebab housing and contents too much to be included. The juices bombard the wrap, soaking everything in crimson along the way. A strong preference, but the right one. Second, a bit of spice could have been added be it salt, pepper, paprika, dill or garlic. The flavor of the kebab was already above-average but this would boost an echelon higher.
The first bite was a memorable experience. The first bite should be a large one but not so large it’s difficult to chew properly. The edges of a wrap or whatever bread usually has some padding hence the need for a larger bite. Combatants want to ensure the first attempt has a fusion of flavor from all ingredients and hefty enough to make an impression. A poor first bite might result in an immediate bias for the rest of combat.
The golden ratio remained consistent throughout. The chicken was tender and juicy. Vegetables spread evenly with care. Sauce was a companion, not an overbearing partner. I’ve started playing it safe with garlic sauce because it has been consistently tasteful. Spicy sauce depends on the ingredients, texture, spice-level, and flavor. At times, it has led to severe disappointment and a scorched tongue. Garlic sauce has never offended me so.
Another interesting fact about this establishment- at least in June 2026, there are 3 kebab shops within 100 feet on the same strip. Aden Kebab appears to steal most of the traffic due to it’s positioning. The one in the middle, Doner Kebab, has 1/10th of the total reviews on Google. The one furthest Aden, Moon Kebab (which will be tested soon), has 1/3 fewer reviews. I do not know when these establishments were brought to life, but it appears the proximity plays games and requires fierce competition.
Highly recommend checking out Aden Kebab when in this area.
