The Chronicle
A rare feat to earn a consistent number across all categories. Perhaps it’s because the establishment is a small but busy operation near the Funchal port, optimally set up so adventurers on boats and grab a quick bite. Towering above even the tallest of combatants, the shop works with precision and speed to deliver consistent kebabs.
The first bite was a pleasant one that remained consistent with each subsequent rip of the sandwich. While consistent, the golden ratio would have been a little better with more vegetables. Heavy on the meat, which is usually a good thing, but in this one instance I’d prefer to have a better mix to round things out. The bread was fresh and easy to grasp. Wrapped in tin foil, the juices stayed inside the perimeter without splashing upon the ground atop which we feast for a clean engagement.
The meat was tender yet a little under-seasoned for my liking. The sauce was imminently forgettable but a tasteful addition. The sandwich was a good size- not huge, not tiny, and somewhere above average. If the jaws on the bread can close on a pita-based kebab, the heft is lacking. While on the verge, it would take might to truly force the bread to join.
Overall an esteemed experience and likely the best kebab on the revered island of Madeira. Upon my return I shall patronize this establishment again.
