Trial of Arms
The Chronicle
33 zloty ($8.75 usd) this is a feast to be reckoned with. The value of kebabs, as I’ve scribbled before, is hard to beat at the price point. Especially when the kebab shop must fight with two other establishments but mere steps away from each other. Fierce competition typically drives down prices. Unfortunate for the shops, possibly unsustainable at scale, but good for combatants who yearn to rip and tear at their nourishment on offer.
The kebab master, a gregarious and friendly fellow from Bangladesh, is hard-working and skilled at his craft. In this monstrous heat wave afflicting Europe, it must be devilish torture to work in a kebab shop with further blistering heat. As a traveler, I sometimes forget the privilege I am bestowed by the gods. Moon Kebab and its master were a brief solace from the mundane and repetitive life I lead.
I was able to customize the kebab to my heart’s content because the master spoke the common tongue I’ve used for decades. Garlic sauce, absent tomatoes, with a dash of paprika for good-measure. For all intents and purposes, this kebab should have been perfect. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations as a seasoned veteran; but still enjoyable nonetheless.
The first bite was strong and filled with flavor- it gave me hope to end my search early for the world’s best kebab. With each subsequent bout with the chicken wrap, my hope waned in great sadness. The ingredients were all fine and above average. The most impressive part was again the cost for quality and fullness achieved post-battle.
All of the ingredients were slightly above average. The master ensured the golden ratio was something to rely on. Honestly, everything was good with little to complain about. On this quest for greatness however, good is not good enough. I am glad I survived this bout and live to fight again. I’ll not forget the kind and charismatic man behind the counter, but I likely will quickly forget this wrap.
