The Chronicle

Excited to patronize this establishment for the second time, I was met with feelings of melancholic sorrow. The lavash is handmade in a street-side window for all to see. At all times of the day, Tendur Kebap appears to be bustling. The unique but rudimentary attraction attracts well; so well in fact that the neighboring Zahir Kebab appears to be struggling for traffic of any meaningful kind.

A merger of the two brands would create a beast to be reckoned with. Tendur’s handmade lavash and Zahir’s….everything else. The bread carries with such weight that everything else appears to be somewhat tasteless. The ingredients are fresh due to the popularity of their food, but the quality of each individual item appears to lack substance or flavor. A taste test of each ingredient would likely reveal mild and forgettable flavors with little substance or seasoning.

In the corner, there is a mysterious self-service machine with translation from one tongue to a common one, at least at first glance. The transmutation failed spectacularly with buttons and ingredients remaining local and with unimportant words being affected. I was able to find my way to the end of the cart only to be met with a frozen payment screen. Instead of this being a convenience, it became a time-sink.

Don’t misunderstand, the kebab isn’t bad per se. More sauce and less-dry meat would work wonders. I ordered simple but usually effective chicken wrap with garlic sauce and basic vegetables (tomato, raw onion, and lettuce). In Lodz, other instances of the same wrap were much more flavorful and vibrant.

The lavash bread, as gimmicky as it appears to be in the window, is truly a differentiating factor for Tendur. It’s delicious, fresh, warm, and soaks up the juices (if there ever are any) with grace. Tendur is worth visiting for the lavash alone and with some luck the kebab masters might add more flavor on the next bout.
